SUMMARY:The Black Absolute – Discover Your Creative Power Beyond Colour
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=””]Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or you’ve been creating for years, this workshop is designed for YOU.\nThe Black Absolute is a liberating, intensive studio experience where we explore one of art’s most powerful tools: black. But this isn’t about colour theory or technical rules – it’s about discovering who you are as a creative person.\nMany artists get stuck relying on colour to make their work interesting. Vibrant palettes can feel safer, easier. But what happens when you strip all that away? What emerges is something deeper: your authentic voice, your gesture, your vision. This workshop takes you on that journey.\n“In the beginning, there was black.” — Ad Reinhardt\n\nWhat You’ll Learn\nComposition Without a Safety Net\nMost of us lean heavily on colour to make art “work.” This workshop challenges that habit and teaches you the deeper language of form, balance, gesture, and rhythm. When colour is off the table, you discover what truly makes a composition compelling.\nMaterial Mastery & Gesture\nYou’ll work with charcoal, ink, acrylic, and mixed media – all explored through black. You’ll understand how pressure, layering, flow, and texture create meaning. Your hand, your body, your choices become visible in every mark.\nCreative Confidence\nFour sessions of studio practice, guiding feedback and peer community means you’ll push beyond what feels comfortable. You’ll take creative risks you didn’t think you could take. And you’ll emerge with a stronger sense of your own artistic identity.\nContext & Inspiration\nWe draw from some of art history’s most revolutionary practitioners – from Malevich’s radical void to Kapoor’s light-absorbing installations, from Frankenthaler’s gestural freedom to contemporary voices. Understanding these artists’ journeys inspire your own.\nConstraint is liberating, not limiting. By removing colour from the equation, you unlock creative possibilities you didn’t know existed. The artists we study – Malevich, Rothko, Frankenthaler, Kapoor – all used black as a tool for freedom, not restriction. You will too.\nReady to Level Up Your Creative Practice? Join us for The Black Absolute. Whether you’re new to art or you’re looking to deepen your skills, this workshop will challenge you, inspire you, and help you discover your authentic artistic voice. Your creative breakthrough is waiting.\nThis workshop over 4 weeks takes place on Monday nights or Tuesday mornings from 1st/2nd June – 29th/30th June, from 19.00 – 21.00 or from 10.00 – 12.00. Please note there is no class on the 22nd & 23rd June due to the national holiday. The course fee is 360 Euro incl. all materials & VAT and is payable on subscription. In order to book the workshop please send an e-mail to sonja(@)sonjasoyer.com or use the contact form ( https://sonjasoyer.com/portfolio-item/booking/ ) at the bottom of the booking page.\nPlease understand, that refunding of payments is not possible later then 2 weeks before the class starts and that partial refunding is also not possible.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”9366″ img_size=”” css=””][vc_single_image image=”9367″ img_size=”” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]\n
