Summering – A Landscape Painting Workshop on Monday evenings in July
When the world hums with heat and light spills over everything in reckless abundance, there’s an art to staying with it – really staying with it – long enough to paint what you see. My four-week Summering workshop is an invitation to slow down inside summer’s extravagance and learn to read it with a painter’s eye.
Working from the studio, we’ll explore sun-scorched fields, long afternoon shadows, water catching the last of the day and skies that change their mind every ten minutes. You’ll learn to handle the specific challenges of summer light – the way colour bleaches and vibrates, how shadow isn’t brown or grey but something entirely alive. Each session is built around looking first, painting second.
Summer doesn’t whisper. It demands you learn to see it at full volume.
This workshop is for everyone. ready to move beyond their comfort zone – to work with nature’s most demanding season on canvas, and to discover that the most difficult light is also the most generous. We’ll explore colour temperature, luminosity, and the art of knowing when to stop. You’ll leave with four finished landscape studies and a completely different relationship with the season.
What we’ll cover:
Reading and capturing the light, colour temperature, shadows in full sun. Subjects like, why shadow is never just dark – the colour inside shade, cast light and reflected heat. We look at capturing water & the horizon. Reflections, stillness, and movement. Painting water that actually feels wet. And last but not least we will capture the golden hour. Low light, long shadows and the discipline of painting fast when everything is changing. Four intimate sessions. Four evenings of pure observation, paint, and possibility.
Come ready to see summer differently.
