Finding your visual voice – A Workshop for Teenagers

You know that feeling when you’re scrolling, comparing, evaluating everything? This isn’t that.

Over five weeks, we’re making works. Real work. Not for Instagram, not for a grade – for you. You’ll paint, draw, experiment with materials, push beyond what feels safe. You’ll discover that mistakes are where the actual learning lives.

We’re building experiences and works for a portfolio together, yes. But more importantly, we’re building your confidence as a maker. You’ll walk in with questions. You’ll walk out knowing something true about yourself as an artist.

What you’ll do:
Week 1: Play. Mess up. Learn that’s the point.
Week 2: Find a question that’s yours, then make visual work about it.
Week 3: Take a risk. Break your own rules on purpose.
Week 4: Refine what matters. Show your thinking in the making.
Week 5: Bring it together. Five pieces that tell the story of who you are.
Plus: process notes, research – everything universities actually want to see.

Who this is for:
Teenagers (any age 14–18) who want to:
• Build real technical skill in painting, drawing, mixed media
• Explore art history and contemporary artists on your own terms
• Make something that feels authentic, not forced
• Take a genuine break from screens and school pressure
• Get portfolio pieces ready for university applications

Mixed skill levels welcome. Everyone learns here.

The Space
Studio. No phones (unless you’re photographing your work). Music. Water. Room to make mess and make meaning.
No judgment. No comparison. Just honest making.

Limited to 6 participants. First come.

“The best outcome isn’t a piece for a perfect portfolio. It’s a teenager who trusts their own eye, who understands that making things is thinking and who knows that mistakes are where the learning lives.”

The workshop takes place on Thursday evenings 18.00 – 20.00 on the following dates 16th April, 23rd April, 30th April, 7th May and 21st May. The course fee is 450 Euro incl. all materials and VAT for the set of five classes and payable on subscription.

In order to book the class please send an e-mail to sonja(@)sonjasoyer.com or use the contact form at the bottom of the booking page.

Please understand, that refunding of payments is not possible later then 2 weeks before the class starts and that partial refunding is also not possible.
