Off the Map – Invented Landscapes Mixed Media Workshop on Wednesday evening
Join me for evenings of getting wonderfully lost.
We all know what a landscape is supposed to look like. Let’s find out what happens when it doesn’t have to.
Each Wednesday starting on the 11th November from 19.00 – 21.00 we start with images of real landscapes: skies, hills, coastlines, whatever pulls you in. We look at how they work. Then we do something slightly different with them. We step off the well-trodden path of traditional landscape painting and try techniques that are usually not meant for it.
You’ll draw, paint, glue, layer, scratch and rearrange. And words come along too. Handwriting, scraps of text, maps, lists and found lines become part of the structure itself, forming a ridge, a river or a horizon line. Your page ends up holding a place that exists nowhere else, built from image, mark and word.
Some of it will work, some of it will surprise you, and the surprises are usually the best part.
You don’t need to be good at landscapes, and you don’t need a plan. Just come curious and ready to take a risk or two. I’ll have the materials, the techniques and the nudges.
Know the map. Then go off it.
The workshop takes place on Wednesday nights from 19.00 – 21.00h, starts on November 11th and goes through to 9th December. Limited spaces, so be sure to reserve your spot!
