Queens of Resistance – Portrait Mixed Media Workshop
This four-week workshop explores feminist art, resistance and the power of self-representation through painting and mixed media. We learn from artists who refused to be invisible – women who demanded space, painted their truth, and reshaped what art could say. Together, we make work that claims our own visual authority.
Do women have to be naked to get into the Met Museum? — Guerrilla Girls, 1989
They asked the question. Now it’s our turn to answer it – with paint, with paper, with our own face looking back. For centuries, women were celebrated as muses but silenced as makers. The Guerrilla Girls called it out in broad daylight. Judy Chicago set a table for women history forgot. Ana Mendieta pressed her body into the earth and said: I was here. These women refused invisibility. Your work comes next.
Queens of Resistance is a four-week mixed media art workshop rooted in feminist art history and focused on portrait painting and self-portraiture. It offers a hands-on artistic journey of self-discovery and powerful self-expression. Through a series of practical exercises, you’ll engage with diverse materials and techniques, from the stark simplicity of black and white to the rich textures of collage and mixed media.
The Guerrilla Girls wore gorilla masks so their message would be louder than their names. Judy Chicago spent five years setting a table the art world had denied women for centuries. They did not wait for permission. Neither should you. This is your invitation into a lineage of women who made their mark – loudly, visually, permanently. Come and make yours. Reserve your place. The table is set. The canvas is waiting.
